About Me

Hello, I’m Katie.

I am a writer. At first, all my writing was correspondence. I wrote long letters to friends all over the world, telling stories and sharing lives. At the beginning of 2013, I started this blog as a way to write letters to the world; since then, writing has become both a job and a passion. It’s a way to communicate all the strange and wonderful things I encounter, and it’s a way to make connections.

I am an analog photographer. I shoot with film. Analogue is all about imperfection; it captures the feelings, poetry, and emotions of a place. Usually I shoot with a Pentax K1000 and a Olympus Mju, though I also dabble with a plastic toy Holga, a Yashica twins lens reflex, even with disposable cameras. I want my pictures to look like my dreams, I want my pictures to feel like my nostalgia. I work on various projects and collaborations, including one called The Dreamspace that I shoot in collaboration with a photographer in NYC.

I live in Istanbul, Turkey. In 2013, I moved here from Massachusetts, my home state, looking for a bit of an adventure and an experience outside of the US. I thought I would stay for a year, but I never left, and now I consider Istanbul my home. It’s endlessly fascinating, wild, infuriating, heartbreaking, heart-soaring; Istanbul might be my main addiction. Istanbul is a mad city, crowded and complex and buzzing, and never ever boring. I live a rich and beautiful life.

I am insatiably curious and constantly delighted. I hope some of that is reflected in my writing on this blog.
